When I visited my parents in Iowa last summer, my dad showed me my great grandmother's autograph book from 1894, when she was a young girl. Each page was covered in careful penmanship; cursive in pencil and ink. Young friends and family members signed the entire book with poetic testaments to friendship and love that resonate, nearly 120 years later.
In an attempt to give those voices from two centuries ago a little bit of new life, this new series of Autograph cards features six of those messages from my great grandmother's 1890s autograph book. I hand lettered each sweet poetic sentiment and paired them with my own botanical drawings. Each card is letterpress printed each by hand on thick cotton paper, accompanied with beautifully coordinating envelopes in chartreuse, persimmon, gravel, and kraft brown.
One of our goals with the work we do is to give back a little with every project. 5% of the sales of Autograph cards will go to Safe Horizon, a New York City based organization that assists victims of domestic violence and child abuse.
